here's a piece of news from OCS (Officer Cadet School)

560 cadets of the 69/07 cohort were officially commissioned as Officers of the Singapore Armed Forces today, marking the end of a gruelling yet rewarding nine-month journey.

Among the ranks were ten female cadets, including MID Chia Chern Mei Michelle and MID Sing Geok Wei, who after commissioning to the Lieutenant rank, will be continuing their military training at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, England.

In his speech to the graduating class, Reviewing Officer Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Mr Wong Kan Seng emphasized the heavy responsibilities of leadership, citing the examples of Lim Bo Seng and Lieutenant Adnan in World War II. He called upon the graduants to remember the oath of duty and honour that they have taken, and to use it as a beacon to guide them in leading those under their charge.

SAF Merit Scholarship (Women) Tea Session
The SAF Merit Scholarship (Women) tea session was held at Raffles City Convention Centre on 14 October 2007.

Through sharing by in-service scholars, a question-and-answer session and interaction with in-service personnel, students found out more about the scholarship and gained a better understanding of what it means to be a female officer in the SAF.

The participants were also informed that eligible candidates will undergo Basic Military Training (BMT) at the Officer Cadet School (OCS) in early January upon provisional award of the scholarship.

Application will open in October 2008.
